COVER: Soul Cycle & Melanie Charles Reinterpret Stevie’s ‘My Cherie Amour’

22/09/2010

Soul Cycle are a US jazz/funk/soul outfit with a number of albums under their belt. I’m not familiar with their stuff, however after hearing this cover of Stevie Wonder’s ‘My Cherie Amour’ I’ll definitely be paying closer attention.

Featuring Melanie Charles on vocals, the band take a classic soul cut, play around with the arrangement, and come up with something that, whilst maintaining the ‘soul’ of the original, sounds fresh and up to date.

The track is taken off their new EP Flipped which features 4 covers and 3 reinterpretations of their own tracks. The covers include Outkast’s ‘Prototype’ feat. Rogiers, MJ’s ‘I Can’t Help It’ and the Miles Davis classic ‘In A Sentimental Mood’ feat. Saunders Sermons.

Thanks to SoulCuts for the heads up.
