Spotlight: Russell Taylor ‘Confessional’

..among the best kept secrets in contemporary music… –

Russell Taylor was a name I heard banded about quite a bit towards the letter part of last year. Many of the soul music blogs mentioned him by name and featured his music, all in anticipation of the release of his album Confessional. The album was released back in September, but as is often the case with indie releases, limited promotion meant that the album did not fulfill it’s potential, even though it managed to reach those ‘in the know’ and was praised highly by respected sites such as Soultracks and Soulbounce.

Since the release Russell has been keeping a low-profile. Still engaged in music, he spent time working with High School students, leading lyrical poetry and songwriting workshops, but distanced himself from his main passion, performing. With time to think and reflect Russell has now decided to come back harder and stronger than before, he will re-release the album in February and is embarking on a number of live dates, including one here in the UK alonside fellow indie artist Choklate.

You can check out the video for ‘Press Pause’, the first single from the re-release, below.

The album is available from, iTunes or CD Baby and further information can be found at or by following him on twitter.
