What’s New: Randomness ….

OK, i’ve been out of action for a few days … had a nasty cold that KO’d me for the whole weekend and start of the week. For that reason i’m behind with blogging so decided to do a bit of a round up of what has been out there on the WWW over the last week or so, along with some thoughts/general comments …

  • Last week and this week have seen loads of GREAT live shows, mostly over in the US. If i had to pick one i could have attended it would have to be the Yahzarah, PJ Morton and Jaguar Wright show, by all accounts (i.e. Tha Connoisseur) it was amazing! Here is a ‘highlights’ clip of Yahzarah’s performance (the audio is slightly dodgy, but still she sound amazing) along with video of Jaguar Wright and PJ Morton.

  • As if that wasn’t enough Underground Soul Sessions put together an evening featuring Mos Def, Bilal, Stokley AND Ledisi! To top it off the show was opened by the fantastic Neon Collars and one of my favourite artists right now, Caretta Bell. For a review of the show check out Got Soul Sessions. Video of the show seems to be a bit thin on the ground but i did manage to find a clip of Ledisi doing her thing

  • Other shows of interest were Angela Johnson, Anthony David and Eric Roberson, aka The Jazzy Soul Collective (review here) and Raphael Saadiq’s concert at the Indigo in London (here).
  • As i’m sure everyone is aware, Chrisette Michele drops her sophomore effort ‘Epiphany’ on May 5th. Opinion so far, including my own, has been mixed. Now samples of the entire album are available over at Honey Soul. After listening i’m slightly more excited, but i can’t see it packing the same punch as ‘I Am’. Oh and for what my opinion is worth i think the track ‘Another One’ sounds like something Beyonce would do [Note this should be taken as a negative not a positive].
  • Thought i would share 2 tracks that i can’t stop listening to at the moment. First up is Carleen Anderson’s cover of Leon Ware’s ‘Wanna Be Where You Are’ featuring Paul Weller. The track appears on her 2005 release Soul Providence. Second is a track from UK group Belleruche. I recently got my hands on both their albums (Turntable Soul Music [2007] and The Express [2008]), but so far i keep coming back to the track ‘Alice’ off of their debut.

Belleruche – ‘Alice’

Please forgive the ‘random’ post but i just needed to get my head together ready to return to usual blogging duties at the end of the week. I’m currently working on a ‘Soul:Essential Vol.3’ mix and a ‘Best of British Vol.3’ mix … however there is some overlap in the content which i need to get rid of. Whether that results in me scrapping one of the mixes or producing 2 shorter mixes is yet to be decided.

I also have a couple of posts in the pipeline that i’m excited about but don’t wanna say too much and jinx it, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements soon 😉
