Review: Kulturkantine

Stumbled across this a few weeks ago and I beg each and every one of you to get hold of a copy!

KULTURKANTINE – Electronic Soul Lounge Sessions

It was the artwork that first caught my attention, and then the phrase electronic soul somewhat increased my excitement so i decided to check out the tracklisting. There were a few names i was familiar with such as Beverley Knight, Corinne Bailey Rae, Amp Fiddler and the Bamboos, but the majority were new to me.

I’m not a massive fan of compilations, but sometimes they can be a good way of discovering new music so, based on the strength of the artists i knew i gave it a shot!

First track was by the Bamboos and had me hooked from the word go. I have their ‘Side-Steppin’ album and they are heavily featured on Kylie Auldist’s album so I was already a fan but this track blew me away.

The Bamboos ft Paul Macinnes – ‘Move On’

I was familiar with Up Hygh from the ‘Dirty Soul: Electric’ compilation i have mentioned previously and ‘Be Known’ (only the second track i’ve heard from them) is also great!

Up Hygh ft Eska – ‘Be Known’

The album is billed as ‘electronic soul’ but not all the tracks are what i would consider electronic. Take for instance The New Mastersounds’ ‘Your Love Is Mine’ featuring Corinne Bailey Rae.

The New Mastersounds ft Corinne Bailey Rae – ‘Your Love Is Mine’

The final track i’ve chosen to feature is by UK duo Coldcut. I can’t work out whether they are just the producers behind the track or whether they are also the vocalists, either way it’s been on repeat since i got the album and i’m currently trying to hunt down more from them.

Coldcut – ‘Walk A Mile’

I had to hold myself back from featuring nearly every song on the 2CD package, the songs above are just a few personal highlights but the more i listen the more i get into each and every track!

Cannot recommend enough!
